Refurbishment of existing command and control vehicle
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service owned and operated a 10 year old Mercedes command and control vehicle that failed to meet the needs of the authority under the current threat.
AES were tasked with delivering a feasibility study and business case for the refurbishment of the vehicle and subsequently the contract to uplift the vehicle.
The contract involved completely stripping out the vehicle, subdividing it into three sections using pre-fabricated bulkheads with sliding communication windows and refitting the vehicle in its entirety.
The new design provided by AES included:
New communication, data and document processes recognising current major incident command methodology in a custom designed pleasant working environment working around the restrictions placed on the team by the existing platform
Air conditioning to all sections of the vehicle
Primary Secondary and back-up power distribution circuitry
New communication plan, redesigned communication consul and integration with interoperable radio systems located in a custom built communication room
Installation of two mobile data terminals with GPRS bearer and the integration of those systems with the vehicles server system
Three workstations in the command area serviced by redesigned (sliding) tally system, 44 inch plasma with Smart interface and 16 inch operator displays, Sky news display
New furniture throughout including cupboards seating, fabric linings, wall linings, roof linings, new roof skin, complete vehicle re-spray an livery
Integration of one meter satellite dish (Accelerate)
Extensive Site testing including communication, body system, leak testing, mains electrical and functional testing were completed by the AES QA team
The AES design team provided all technical and training Publications
Training is to be provided by the AES design and Service Support Team
